American Translation Partners and also many of our interpreters and translators are associates with, accredited by, and members of several organizations in the United States of America and around the world. Some, but not all professional associations, certification bodies, accreditation organizations & also affiliates focused on translation and interpretation in the language service industry promote improvement in the certification of languages, linguists, and polyglots.

What’s the importance of Accreditation?

In short, belonging to an organization is not enough. Generally, you have to be actively involved in helping to strengthen the community bonds and provide education and social awareness for the professional field to advance in areas of certification and language-specific testing.

For instance, many of these organizations count on their members to get involved and advocate for the profession in education, political areas, legislative matters, and community affairs. Therefore, we strongly encourage your involvement to help ensure success for all stakeholders.

And now take a moment to consider the truly high cost of accreditation for language-specific translators or interpreters. It is based on field demands, and current trends show a significant amount of attention on legal and medical interpreters and translations. Consequently, the average cost to build design and implement a single language-specific test within the subject matter expertise is over $100,000. Particularly, for this reason, there are only a handful of languages certified by specific language in medical and legal fields for interpreters.

Firstly, Accreditation… Then, Certification. Or even, Licensed. What about Professional? As well as, Qualified? And then there is, Language Skilled. Besides all those, don’t forget ScreenedTrained or Evaluated.

These are buzzwords that the language industry uses to illustrate and identify various levels of quality or ranking. Likewise, we believe that the testing and certification should be overseen by a national, valid, credible, and vendor-neutral certification program is the best means of evaluating the skill sets of linguists working in the profession.
